This appears to be a bit off topic for me, although to be fair; Java Server stuff is heavily involved and of course Adobe products also. Currently I am assisting a company with a very interesting new offering which will border on gaming and fairly heavy use of AIR. The Java based SmartFoxServer, seems to be getting a lot of good press as a server suited to handling RIA applications from all kinds of devices and computers with support for all the main paradigms out there spanning Flash based technologies, iPhone-iPad and the emerging, Unity 3D.
I only just started digging into SmartFoxServer and I will certainly post more feedback here; one more thing I really like, is that they have partnered with Terracotta to enable clustering of the environment going forward.
