Los Angeles ColdFusion User Group - Redux Part 1

For the past 3-4 years we have not had a regular ColdFusion User Group here in Los Angeles, which is terrible for such a large prominent city.  Leon Chalnick and Sid Sheres ran the local groups for a good number of years but then decided to retire from that after years of hard work.  Recently, Bill Nichols had tried to restart the group and after working hard at that, he is now moving out of LA.  So I am taking on the role of User Group Manager for the new Los Angeles ColdFusion User Group.

There is no doubt it will be a challenge, Los Angeles is just so spread out and snarled in traffic at rush hour so it is very hard to find the right place to hold UG meetings.  It astounded me one time when I was up in the DC area and I went to a User Group meeting held at Teratech and it was packed, at least 25-30 people and the speaker was not a Ben Forta; in recognition terms that is.

So I will be posting here as we progress in re-establishing the Los Angeles User Group.  ColdFusion and JRun have been very good for me and it is high time I try to return the favor. to the community

If there is anyone out there in the LA area who has some good thoughts-ideas please feel free to comment on this article.  Thanks

@ Daniel, thanks that is good of you and I know you have done your best to support the efforts of Bill Nichols which is much appreciated I am sure. The first key issue is to find a well situated place to meet so I am applying my brain to that. Then we have to present on compelling subject matter and if possible do that in the meeting place not just have people sitting in a room watching and/or listening to a remote presentation.

@Art thanks for the comment. Although I will be managing the effort there are actually 4 of us who will be helping/running things and we are all determined to make each meeting as interesting as possible with practical examples etc.

Hi,

My name is Ira Goldstein and I am a Lifetime member and Chairman of The Internet Committee for the world famous Magic Castle in Hollywood, CA. www.magiccastle.com

Our website is written in ColdFusion and we are in need of 1 or 2 more people to volunteer for our Internet Committee so we can complete some of the projects our other committee members have not had time to complete.

In return for your help we are prepared to offer a complimentary "Associate Membership" to The Magic Castle/Academy of Magical Arts with all perks and priviledges that come with it. To join would cost you over $1,500. This is an excellent place to entertain friends and business clients and even have a place to hold a small up to 20 member CF usergroup meeting (I currently host an ACT! Contact Manager Usergroup every other month).

If your ColdFusion programming skills are mid to advanced and you can also work with MSSQL and database replication, please email me at cf@magiccastle.com with your contact information and I will call you back to set up a meeting at The Magic Castle.
